Should he be Benched?

Some jets fans are beginning to think the 2nd year QB Mark Sanchez is starting to become a problem. Sanchez has thrown eight touchdowns with eleven interceptions in the last seven games. He also fumbled four times Sunday, and has nine fumbles for the season, so some are questioning if he is a strain on the offense. In his most recent  game Jets coach Rex Ryan almost benched him due to his performance. Based on Sanchez's performance this year should Coach Ryan put in 40 yr old QB Mark Brunell and bench Sanchez? Do you think this would help the Jets offense?

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/12/12/rex-ryan-almost-benched-mark-sanchez/related/

I think taking out Sanchez would be the right decision simply because Sanchez hasn't got it done on the field and for the most part the jets have depended on their running game and couldn't depend on their passing. Sanchez is still young and can still progress to be a great Qb, however putting in a older quarter back with more experience I think would be the right thing for the jets. Sanchez in my option has too little experience is not ready to start. Besides his performances really mirror that his game could really use some work so if the jets want a better passing game I think they should put in a Qb that can handle the pressure.

Wikileaks

Ever since WikiLeaks released more than a quarter-million sensitive diplomatic documents, controversy has arose on how safe the U.S. security cybernet is. Homeland Security has already shut down more then 75 internet domain sites in a effort to keep hackers away from important files. Homeland Security also labors to build protections for all of the other, potentially more vulnerable U.S. agencies. Some of considered wikileaks to be the internet 9/11. Do think this is true? Do you think this will endanger the United States and its security?

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/40518189/ns/technology_and_science-security/

I believe the event is definitely a threat our security considering WikiLeaks exposed inappropriate comments of world leaders from Diplomats and gave access to information the U.S. does not want people looking at. I don't think it is a internet 9/11. It's a major problem but not quite on the scale of a 9/11 event event if it's just on the internet. It's a problem and I believe homeland security can fix before too much information gets spread.

IPS Year Round School?

Much controversy has arose since the Indianapolis board of education approved a new year round calendar permitting year round school for next year. The new calendar will include a 8 week summer, fall break Oct. 10-Oct17, Spring break lasting from Mar.26-April 2, and winter break lasting for 3 weeks. Do you think change is needed for IPS? Would the year round school year make a difference for students? Is this change probably going to take shape with other schools across the state?

http://www.indystar.com/article/20101124/LOCAL18/11240327/Year-round-calendar-approved-for-IPS?odyssey=tab|topnews|text|IndyStar.com|default|pint

Considering the fact that more then 48% of the junior high students have a 3rd grade reading level and many have not been able to pass istep I think change would be the best way to face the problem. IPS has been having problems with its students attending school for the required 180 days, however due to the increase in breaks I do not see the new school calendar making a significant difference. It seems that the schedule is the same it's just that the students get a shorter summer but longer seasonal breaks. The new calendar may help the students who tend to miss a lot of school for whatever reason make up and hopefully improve the chances of more students graduate however I do not think this will make a huge difference. As for other schools depending on the results and benefits the school year brings other schools may adopt the new year round calendar.

Wild Tigers to be extinct in 12 years?

Wild tigers could become extinct in 12 years if countries where they still roam fail to take quick action to protect their habitats and step up the fight against poaching, global wildlife experts told a "tiger summit" Sunday. The World Wildlife Fund and other experts say only about 3,200 tigers remain in the wild, a dramatic plunge from an estimated 100,000 a century ago. Do you think there should be some sort of effort to prevent the extinction of the tigers? Why/Why not?

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/40298964/ns/world_news-world_environment/

I believe that the preservation of  would be a necessary cause because the tiger means so much to many different people around the world. To some the tiger is spiritually related, others see tigers as one of the wonders of the world. The extinction of the tigers would be a historic and sad event causing pain to many different groups of people. In my opinion, it would be a tragedy to lose such a beautiful animal on this earth.

the Supreme Court of the United States listened to the oral arguments in the case of Schwarzenegger v. Entertainment Merchants Association. The Supreme Court is reviewing a California law that targets video games that give the player the option of “killing, maiming, dismembering, or sexually assaulting an image of a human being.” A game is covered by the law if it displays acts that a “reasonable person” would find appeals to “a deviant or morbid interest of minors,” if the content would violate community standards on what minors should see, if the content lacks serious value, and if the player can inflict injury through “torture or serious physical abuse” of a human-like figure. The Supreme court argues that exposing certain materials to minors warp kids and turn them violent, others argue that the possible law is violates freedom of speech.

I believe that banning violent video games until a certain age would be extremely unconstituaional and that it would be violating freedom of speech.  Parents should be the judge of what their children should beable to play not the government. Another point I could make is that there has not been any scientific studies that have confirmed that violent video games alter the way kids think. If anything should be changed it should be the way parents handle deciding what they will allow their kids to buy and what they buy for them.

Yemen frees student held over parcel bombs

Recently Yemen has freed a woman held on suspicion of involvement in a plot to send parcel bombs on U.S.-bound planes after her arrest sparked protests by her fellow students. Governments, airlines and aviation authorities around the world are reviewing security after two parcel bombs sent from Yemen were intercepted on planes in Dubai and Britain on Friday. The bombs had all the hallmarks of al-Qaida, U.S. officials say.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/39934150/ns/us_news-security/

I believe that the bombing was a plot similar to the 2009 Christmas day attempted bombing in an effort to express hatred and fear towards the U.S. Fortunately the bombing failed however the fact that the bombs were all hallmarks of al- Qaida draws suspection in my mind that the al-Qaida could be planning another terrorist attack. With that in to question I think the fact that bombs even managed to get onto the plan shows how much of a lack of security countries have, including our own and that governments need to crack down and double up security so another 9/11 does not happen.

Pakistan resists U.S. push to expand terror fight

Over the last few months the U.S. has pressured Pakistan to allow troops to move across the Afghan border as fast as possible to deal with a key taliban sanctuary in a effort to help turn the war around. Despite the U.S. plea,Pakistan's foreign minister said Sunday that his country will deal with a key Taliban sanctuary along the Afghan border on its own timeline. Analyst believe Pakistan is holding back on the offensive due to historical ties in the region of North Waziristan, a possible key to success in the Afghan war because the area serves as the main base for the Haqqani network — a militant group that military officials have said poses the greatest threat to troops in Afghanistan. The United States tried during the recent talks to encourage Pakistan to intensify its fight against extremists by offering a five-year, $2 billion aid package to purchase American arms, ammunition and accessories from 2012 to 2016.tan.

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2010/oct/24/pakistan-resists-us-push-expand-terror-fight/
I believe that Pakistan is using the U.S. as a resource, stalling the process of dealing with the taliban in order to use the U.S. to gain a continuous flow of weapons. I also believe due to the fact that Pakistan may have relations with militants around North Waziristan, Pakistan would violate historical ties with its allies which would cause Pakistan to stall the U.S involve in that area. In short Pakistan is tying up loose ends and using the U.S. as a resource for its weaponry .
